How to Test Your Device in a Browser

A browser device test uses the same web APIs a video call would use, so a pass here means the same hardware works in Zoom, Meet, Teams or Discord.

Start with permissions

Most “my camera is not working” reports are really blocked permissions. The Permissions Test shows exactly what this site is allowed to use and how to reset a blocked prompt in your browser.

Test one device at a time

Use the homepage camera test for picture, resolution and frame rate, the microphone test for input levels, and the speaker test for left and right channels.

Short on time before a call

The Meeting Ready Check bundles camera, microphone, speakers and connection into a single one-minute pass so you can join with confidence.

Benchmark when things feel slow

If your machine stutters rather than fails, the CPU, GPU and memory benchmarks show which part of the system is the real bottleneck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our browser device tests.

Do I need to install anything to run these device tests?

No. Every test on this page runs inside your browser using standard web APIs. There is nothing to download, no extension to add and no account to create.

Is my camera or microphone data uploaded anywhere?

No. Camera and microphone streams are processed locally in your browser and never leave your device. We do not record, store or transmit any audio or video.

Which test should I run first?

If you are preparing for a video call, start with the Meeting Ready Check — it tests camera, microphone, speakers and network in one pass. For a single broken device, jump straight to that device's test.

Do these tests work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Camera, microphone, speaker, display, touch, sensor and network tests all work on modern mobile browsers. A few tests such as MIDI and controller support depend on the browser and hardware.

Why does a test say my hardware is not supported?

Some browsers restrict certain APIs. Safari, for example, does not implement Web MIDI. Try the same test in Chrome or Edge, and check the Permissions Test to make sure nothing is blocked.

Still stuck?

Our troubleshooting guides walk through the exact fixes for a camera that won’t start, a mic nobody can hear, missing sound, Wi-Fi dropouts and overheating laptops on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
