Armazenamento cheio?

Before you start troubleshooting, run the actual test so you know what's broken.
Run the Teste de ArmazenamentoVerificações rápidas primeiro
Windows 11
- Go to Settings > System > Storage. Windows shows a breakdown by category: apps, documents, temporary files, and more.
macOS
- Go to Apple menu > About This Mac > Storage, then click Manage.
- Check for large old iOS backups under Documents > Legacy iOS backups if you've synced an iPhone via Finder or iTunes in the past.
Chromebook
- Open Settings > Device > Storage management to see a breakdown by category, including offline files, apps, and browsing data.
Android
- Go to Settings > Storage to see a breakdown by apps, photos, videos and cached data.
- Tap individual large apps and clear their cache separately from Settings > Apps > [app name] > Storage > Clear cache; this is safe and doesn't delete your data in the app.
iPhone
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage for a breakdown and recommendations, including offloading unused apps while keeping their documents and data.
- Cache do navegador.
Movendo arquivos do drive principal
Why a full drive slows everything down
A storage warning is not only about running out of room for new files. Operating systems use free space constantly for temporary files, virtual memory, update staging and, on solid state drives, for wear levelling. When free space falls below roughly ten percent, everything from application launches to file saves gets measurably slower, and updates start failing outright.
That is why clearing space often produces a performance improvement that seems out of proportion to the files deleted. You are not just making room, you are giving the system back the working area it needs to operate normally. Aim to keep fifteen to twenty percent free rather than clearing the minimum to dismiss the warning.
Where the space usually goes
Before deleting anything, find out what is actually large. People habitually delete documents and photos worth a few hundred megabytes while tens of gigabytes sit in caches and old backups they never think about.
- Downloads folders, which accumulate installers and duplicate files for years.
- Cloud storage set to keep every file locally rather than on demand.
- Old operating system versions retained after a major upgrade, often twenty gigabytes or more.
- Application caches from browsers, music and video apps, and creative software scratch files.
- Local device backups from phones and tablets, frequently the single largest item on a home computer.
- Virtual machines, game installations and video projects, each of which can dwarf everything else combined.
Deleting safely, without breaking anything
The risk with cleanup is removing something the system needs. A simple rule keeps you safe: delete documents and media you recognise, use the built-in cleanup tools for system files, and leave anything you do not recognise alone.
- Empty the recycle bin or trash first, deleted files still occupy space until you do.
- Use the operating system's own storage management tool for system files rather than deleting folders manually.
- Uninstall applications through the proper uninstaller, not by deleting their folder.
- Clear browser caches from within the browser, and expect them to rebuild over the following days.
- Never delete anything from system directories on the basis of a search result, restore points and system folders are not safe targets.
- Back up anything irreplaceable before a large cleanup, ideally to a separate physical device.
A storage strategy that stops the warnings returning
Clearing space once buys a few months. A small amount of structure keeps the drive healthy indefinitely, and it mostly comes down to deciding where each type of file lives before it accumulates.
- Keep the system drive for the operating system, applications and current work only.
- Move completed projects, video archives and photo libraries to an external drive or cloud storage.
- Enable on demand cloud syncing so files download only when opened.
- Set the downloads folder to clear automatically, or review it monthly.
- Check free space once a month rather than waiting for a warning during an update.
- If the drive is small and permanently full, an upgrade is more economical than the time spent managing it.
Running a storage benchmark occasionally is also worthwhile. A drive that has become dramatically slower than when it was new, particularly a solid state drive close to capacity, is telling you something that a space number alone does not.
Common questions about full storage
How much free space should I keep?
Aim for fifteen to twenty percent of the drive. Below ten percent both Windows and macOS slow noticeably and updates begin to fail, and solid state drives lose the spare area they use to spread writes evenly. Clearing just enough to dismiss a warning means the warning returns within weeks.
Is it safe to delete temporary files?
Yes, when you use the built-in storage tools rather than deleting folders by hand. Applications rebuild their caches automatically the next time you use them, so the only cost is a slightly slower first launch. Avoid deleting anything inside system directories based on a search result.
Does cloud storage free up space?
Only if on demand syncing is enabled. Configured to keep everything locally, a cloud folder consumes exactly as much space as the files it holds, plus a copy of anything shared with you. Switch it to download files only when opened, and you can reclaim a very large amount immediately.
Should I add a drive or replace it?
On a desktop, adding a second drive for media and archives is cheap and effective. On a laptop with a single soldered or sealed drive, an external drive is usually the practical answer, and if the internal drive is both small and slow, replacing it improves performance and capacity in one step.
